This class is actually recommendable! Once you complete the journey of getting one, they aren’t really that
bad. Just not the super power that you were probably hoping to find. I actually wouldn’t mind having one of these lead some Dragon-type units into battle.
If you have a Dragon Master as the Leader of a unit with any members of the Dragon or Wyrm classes in it, they will fight more effectively. Or, so the story goes! The only thing that is noticeable is a slight damage increases for these beasts of about 5 - 10 more damage per attack. Hey, at least the negative from the Beast Man class is gone! However, you will wish for them once you look at the level gains for this class. Suddenly, this class now gains Wizard type levels!
What happened?! Also, the defenses are not what one would hope for of a high class, but they are not completely horrible. He is very weak to Fire attacks, and that’s really about it. The rest are just average, except for a high Cold Defense. Over all, not completely terrible, but not mind-blowingly powerful. It’s just a shame that they are so hard to get...

A cool feature about this class is that he can recruit from each of the three Dragon branches. This sounds real cool, but by the time you get a Dragon Master, you should already have your own Dragons developed. Even better is that now his Back Row attack is Ice Field, which
means he can target any enemy character as though he were a Wizard. This should not be overlooked, as you will probably be fighting enemies that are weak to Cold with units lead by these guys in mountains quite often.
Combine this with his really low Hit Point gains per level, and you will see that the Front Row is not a place for him. I would advice only putting them in the Back Row of your Dragon-led terrain units.
