Class Notes & Tips

Along with the Amazon, the Fighter class is the most basic unit that there is in all of Ogre Battle.  These two basic character classes are where the majority of the other classes come from through class promotions. Early on in the game, make sure that your Fighters & Amazon deliver the killing blow on enemy characters.  This will change their Charisma & Alignment, which is needed for any of the classes you want to promote to. Basically, it breaks down like this.  If a character of yours makes the kill, if the enemy:
1) is higher level than him, his Charisma & Alignment will go up.
2) has lower Alignment than him, his Charisma & Alignment will go up.
The greater the difference, the more these values will go up.  Also, the reverse is also true. So, if you follow these simple rules, you should be able to promote your host of Fighters to other, more powerful classes, fairly easily. Even the evil classes need at least a 60 Charisma in most cases, so all of your Fighters will need to have decent levels of it at some point.  This should go without saying, but a normal Fighter is probably one of the weakest character classes in the game, & will quickly get outpaced by the other classes in the game. So, you had better work some up quickly! If you have any Fighters past
Lake Jannenia or so, you will be in for some tough battles....

The unique thing about the Fighter & Amazon classes is that both branches can “declass” themselves.  This means that they can go back and forth within the class hierarchies, as long as they have the necessary Charisma & Alignment to make the class change. Your Knight has been a naughty boy and his Alignment is too low to become a Paladin?  Just turn him back into a Fighter, and then into a Wild Man, and you have yourself an Evil One!  This can be a great way to salvage characters that you have a particular attachment to.  I have to endorse these, because you must use them to get better classes!
