Not quite as powerful as what you would expect from a required level of 7, but still a pretty good class.
For some reason, I like these. They don’t gain as godly levels as the Ninja class does, but he still gains good ones. I tend to think of this class as being interchangeable with Knights in the middle portion of the game. Both can be used in the same manner. And actually, Samurai are better than Knights in almost every facet if you compare them, except for the defenses. Knights have a bit better overall. One would hope so for the extra levels that are needed, right? Samurai are weak to Black attacks as well, so take care against those. The Sonic Strike attack is pretty overpowering early on in the game, even though he will do some damage himself. Just pair him up with a Cleric, and you’ll be good to go. Very irritating that the names of his attacks are all different in the SNES & PSX versions, so to clear up any confusion,
I’ll call it how it is in the PSX version, because that term is more descriptive. A pretty nice class to fill in the gaps in your units with, in both city liberating & city defending units.

Waiting until Level 7 with a Fighter can be too long to be gaining inferior Fighter levels. So, I kinda cheat a little bit. Remember how I said that Knights & Samurai are virtually interchangeable? Well, so are their class requirements. So, if you know ahead of time how many Samurai you are going to want, just change those Fighters temporarily to Knights. Not only will he be stronger and a better fighter for those two levels, but he will gain
those two levels as a Knight, which means slightly better stat gains. Then, drop him back down to a Fighter, and then promote him up to the Samurai. All of this may be more trouble than it’s worth for some, but I sometimes like to power game with my characters every now and then... I tend to end up
with about 4 or 5 Samurai for various duties, and weed them down as other more powerful classes turn up.
