Hawk Man

Class Notes & Tips

This character class is your basic Low Sky character.  This class has a strange progression to it.  You ca choose either to promote to an Eagle Man, which is the “goodly” upgrade, or you can choose to move on up to a Raven Man, which is the “evil” promotion. Really strange, because they are basically the same class, yet you need two more levels to promote to a Raven Man.  Besides, Raven Men are pretty terrible!  For some reason, when the enemy units contains Hawk Men, they are real tough and hard to hit. But whenever I use them, they don’t seem that great. As you can see, they are weak to both Fire & Physical attacks, so maybe that was part of it.  You will want to use this class, however. It doesn’t have the greatest of attacks or power, but you have to keep some around for the necessary promotions and whatnot.

There is a very important feature of this class. Not only is it that he has a Low Sky terrain type, but also the number that goes along with it. The way that the terrain type a unit has is determined is that it checks all of the characters in the unit, and uses the terrain type of whatever number is highest.  This is why the terrain type will always be whatever type the large monster in your unit happens to have; because he’s so big, and so the terrain number value is so high.  However, most of the human characters, specifically, the Fighter & Amazon derivatives, only have a value of 3, with some of the highest forms having a 4.  However, members of the Hawk Man class, including the promotions, all have a value of 4.  What this means is that if you place a Hawk Man in a unit that only contains other small characters, the entire unit will have Low Sky!! The only other class that can do this is the Devil, and you won’t be getting one of those anytime soon!  Anyway, this little fact is imperative for making your units move a lot quicker over the battlefield. Only one Hawk Man is needed in the unit, too. These make for great additions in a city liberating or defending unit. Hawk Men don’t have the Strength or the actual attack to trade blows with anyone, so put them in units that won’t fight all that much, and utilize their speed.  This class gets high marks for this reason alone! Once you enlist Canopus to your army, you get several Hawk Men, and the ability to recruit till your heart’s content!
