Class Notes & Tips

As most of you know, any creature in an RPG named an Imp is really damn cool in its own way. Okay, maybe not in the early Final Fantasy games, but hey... At least you can’t argue the fact that they almost always are....  evil.....?  <pinky>  This game is no exception. You can think of these as the antithesis of the Angel class.  Only these guys are probably better in the long run, due to them being more durable. This is really an amazing base class.  Just look at the levels that they gain! The average total points per level is a ton for this early!  After a while, your Imp will have lots of both Hit Points & Intelligence, with enough Agility to make everyone miss!  The only problem is that he only has one attack when standing in the Back Row. But at night, look for these guys to really lay into Knights, Clerics, and other goody-goodies! My only complaint is that if you get any of the heroic or “goodly” Opinion Leaders, the Imp class can be hard to get early on in the game, because you won’t get any of them in your batch of characters that you get after beating the first stage, The Castle of Warren.  If you are going the evil route, however, you will get quite a few of them at this point. These should be the bread and butter of your campaign, as this class gets ridiculously powerful as it promotes to higher classes.  And yes, you are reading the header for this class correctly! On the Playstation version, there is a big time bug where the name of this base level class is called Devil instead of Imp.  The final & highest form of this class is called Devil in both versions.

As soon as you get a Mage, recruit some of these, pronto! Even if you are taking the “high road” through this game, you will eventually want to get a Devil or two. So, why not start now! Imps gain levels surprisingly fast, and a Demon is not dead weight in a unit by any means! Just keep these active in the early rounds, and you will advance quickly through this class tree and be well on your way to a Devil.  An Imp will fit just fine into any fighting unit, even in the Front Row. I do like to have these in the Front Row sometimes, as the high damage that they deal to “goodly heroes” is quite a lot for this stage of the game, and they don’t seem to take a lot back because of their fairly high Agility & Hit Points.
