Class Notes & Tips

Fe, fi fo fum! Sorry, couldn’t help it!
Here is another batch of large characters that you might find useful.  There are three different types that you can choose to promote to. The problem is that once you pick one, you can’t class change him ever again. So, if you decide to promote your Giant to an Ice Giant, for example, he will be permanently stuck as one, and won’t be able to change to a Titan, even if you have the right requirements! So, make sure that you are positively sure when you class change this brute, because there’s no second take! In the very beginning of the game, this class is super useful. They gain great levels, including some real high Hit Points, and has three attacks from the Front Row; two things that you probably do not have in combination on the same character class.  However, the defenses of this class are not stellar in any way. Watch out for Cold attacks especially, but the others will do considerable damage to him as well.  After a few levels, the high Hit Points will help to make this less of an issue, and he will be able to last longer.  The one problem is that if you want a Titan, you have to wait 15 long levels for it. Otherwise, this is a decent class. Not super awesome great, but kinda cool to use if you want some variety in your early game units.

There a few ways to do this with the Giant classes.  Either:
1) Plan ahead how many Giants of each type that you think you’ll want, and have a unit led by a Wizard recruit them. Then, when they get to the levels that you need, promote them. This is good because you can’t recruit any of the higher forms, and you don’t have to waste time searching for neutral encounters in their various terrain habitats.
2) Only use the ones that you find as neutral encounters, or the ones that come with special characters.  Norn’s Titans, for instance.

I like to throw in a little bit of both. I don’t really endorse using too many of these guys, though.  Honestly? Titans are the only members of this class really worth a look.  As for the other two, there are other large character classes that fill their rolls better, and you don’t want your units to become too large character-laden.  It will lower the number of total attacks that a unit has, and they won’t be able to dish out as much damage as a result. However, I’m a sucker for stupid little things, and the attack animation of the Giant classes are too cool for me not to use at least one or two of them!  How can you not like a guy playing tee-ball with the enemy units’ heads!  Even so, you don’t really need more than maybe 2 or 3 total members of the Giant class in your entire army.  Maybe one of each class, if you like to do that sort of thing...
