Class Notes & Tips

This is one of your main choices for making those all important High Sky units. The Back Row attack of Wind Storm is really really powerful early on in the game. You only get one of them per fight, but it will really put a dent in the enemy unit quickly!  You probably won’t have any other hit-all attacks this early, so it will be most welcome.  Gryphons do gain really poor levels by large character status however, and his defenses aren’t the greatest either.  Fire attacks will spell trouble for your Gryphons.  You have an interesting dilemma for the class change. You can either leave him as he is, keep the hit-all from the Back Row, or, you can class change him to the Cockatris, and have a completely different character. Even though there are only two members in this subclass, both can serve you well later in the game.  If you use them correctly, that is.

Because a Gryphon will not have the uber levels & defenses of the other classes later on, the only real place that they can serve you well after the first few stages is in city liberating units. You will probably always start out with at least one of them after The Castle of Warren, so you can make one of two of these units.  What I like to do with the Gryphon is put him in a unit with my Opinion Leader.  This way, I can have my O.P. liberating towns rapidly, gaining bonuses from the Tarot Cards while I’m doing it. Also, since I avoid having him fight until his level is much lower than the enemy’s, I can easily avoid battles too.  Plus, for those things that only you’re O.P. can do, like Posha on Diaspola, it just makes the travel time much more manageable.  It is imperative that you can react quickly to the enemy unit flow, and having one of these guys in the unit all but guarantees that the unit will have a High Sky movement. So, you will be able to liberate & rescue towns at a frightening pace. The problem is that they don’t hold up too well in battle.  So, use units with them to scout out enemy movement on the map, and ‘report’ back to your other fighting units. As for making your fighting units faster, use either a Cockatris or a member of the Wyrm class.  They can take & dish out the punishment better! If you want more of these, seek out an Eagle Man or Raven Man, and recruit some!
