Class Notes & Tips

This is the first of two character classes that has the terrain type of Ocean.  They are so big that it doesn’t matter what character you put with them. It will always have the Ocean movement type!  What this will let you do is travel in the dark blue water areas instead of just the shallows, and at a very good clip!  Sadly, this is the worst movement type there is in the game.  I like the idea, but if they are not in the water, they move so slooooow!!  And you thought it took a Mountain unit forever to get somewhere! By the time they get to the water, you may have the stage well in hand, and they are completely useless where you originally sent them. Once they do get in the water, they seem to hit and dodge attacks much more often. Also, what other character class has four attacks all by themself?  I thought so! Once they get to their intended destination, they are quite good.  It is just such an ordeal to do so.  However, with as terrible as their Lightning defense is, it really doesn’t matter where you are! Stay away from Wizards and Valkyrie at all costs!! They may have a lot of Hit Points, but it still means death if you don’t!

I would have one or two water units for just those stages that have more water than not. Also, there is a cheeky trick that I like to do, which works great in the early stages. Namely, the Sharom District.  Position your water unit in the water right nearby the shore along the main path or paths the enemy takes. Have some fighting units fight the enemy, and when they get ‘bumped’ back, they will get dumped right onto of your water unit, in the water, and will get seriously thumped!  There are also some stages that have ‘choke points’ near a large sea in the middle of the map.  Namely, Fort Allamoot.  Other than these circumstances, I wouldn’t bother with water units. So, because of that, you may only want one or two Octopus, with the intent to promote them to Kraken.  The one way to help your water units get to the swimming pool faster is to use some “BOOTS” (7 League Boots). Just teleport them to a town close to water, and you’re practically there!  Just makes sure there are no baddies around, or else they might be in for some hurtin’ while on dry land! This class is just too vulnerable on almost every terrain type to be of much practical use. The ones that you get after The Castle of Warren are plenty! If you do want more, grab a Mermaid, and have her recruit some.
