This grouping includes swords, axes, and all the other special things that you can find along your way. What’s the point you ask?
Well, you will see that each weapon has an elemental type associated with it. If you equip the item on a character who has a Direct type of attack, the elemental source of the attack will change to match that of the equipped weapon. This is important, because most classes, especially the large monsters, all have Physical as their strongest defensive. So, if you can change, say, the attack of your Paladin to Fire instead of Physical, on average he’ll do more damage! Any character with a Targeted or Hit-All attack will not have their
elemental source change. The only exception to this is the Amazon, who has a somewhat targeted Physical attack while in the Back Row.

Opposite to the other category, these items will increase your defensives values to whatever the item gives. So, if you equip something that says “Fire + 3,” this character’s Fire defense will go up by 3. Pretty simple, huh?
