This character class is one of the most important to have in the first few stages.
You won’t have many healing items, or extra Goth to buy healing items, and so any way to extend the life expectancy of your budding units is key. You almost need one in every unit, except for the random terrain-based unit or so. The secondary bonus of this class is the “own factor” they have over the Undead. When you encounter a unit that has Undead in it, quickly set your tactics to anything besides STRONG, and your Cleric will turn (kill) every Undead character in that unit! Well, it does have a chance of missing a given ghostie or skele or what have you, but it has about a 90% success rate. Early in the game, you will have no other way to take them out, save a Tarot Card or two. The one thing to worry about with this class is that all of her defenses, except for White, are really quite low. So, you may find that the will have to heal themselves often when you are facing off against ranged fighters.
Still, it’s a worthy tradeoff this early in the game for the ability to heal.

You cannot win the game without these! Well, that may be an exaggeration, but you will have a severely hard time on some of the stages without many Clerics. The ability to heal during a battle is great, as any damage that she heals counts against the ‘total damage’ that the enemy unit causes.
So, if there are survivors on both sides, and a winner must be decided, this can greatly tip the battle in your favor. One interesting fact is that if you do a level-up comparison, the Amazon actually gains better stats on average per level than a Cleric does. I suppose that’s the price you pay for healing powers, huh... Even if you are going for total evil world domination, you will still want a Cleric or two to keep your dark minions healthy! Still, the overall analysis of this class is to use them until all of your units have the ability to kill Undead without the help of a Cleric, via White weapons or other classes with White attacks. This class does get better from here on out, so it wouldn’t hurt to have a few in your army for various duties.
