Class Notes & Tips

If you are all gung ho about Mountain units, then, by all means, use him. He’s one of the best there is!  If you aren’t, then you will probably not even bother with this class at all. Which is really a shame, because he is truly a marvel to behold!  He has traded his old, antiquated Bite attack for the Fire Breath attack while in the Front Row.  Now, you can pick your victim anywhere in your formation!  However, he can really be great in the Back Row!  His Super Nova attack really really powerful! And, you get two of them!  You have to be really careful of Cold attacks now.  Only a defense of 11!  Yikes!  Even with an armor or shield that gives high Cold defense will not cover up this deficiency all the way.  But it is his only glaring weakness.  I don’t necessarily consider his mobility a weakness, because there are plenty of other class options that can give you a 2 hit-all attack from the Back Row with other movement types.  And some of them are even small characters!  That’s what this game is all about! Flexibility with your units! One thing for sure that is not a weakness are his level up gains.  Amazingly high all across the board!

Now that you finally have a Salamand, your Mountain units are looking a whole lot better! I like to pair them with a Dragon Master as the leader in the Back Row.  This way, you have two Cold attacks from the Back Row, which will be great against any of the characters that you will run into that have high Fire defenses while traipsing through the mountains. As for the Salamand himself, he is better suited in the Front Row, right in front of your Dragon Master to protect him. His Back Row attack is marvelous, but put him there only if you have two in the same unit, or maybe some Undead or a Werewolf in the Front Row. His ability to take most of the direct attacks is too valuable in a unit like this.  You can find these a neutral encounters, but almost too late in the game to make it worth it. Just build up your own from Red Dragon II’s.
