Class Notes & Tips

The Wind Storm attack gets traded for two targeted attacks that really unique. First, the good stuff about it.  You see a really destructive character or a healer in that enemy unit?  Target him, and if you get him with your Petrify attack, it will be reduced to a nicely shaped rock on the ground, and do nothing for the rest of the fight!  You can still damage the unlucky soul too!  And because Cockatris have high Agility, he’ll zap the offending enemy quickly in the battle. This effect only lasts until the battle is over. The character cracks his way out of the stoney ‘egg’ you’ve turned him to after the fight.  Second, it can kill Undead characters! Now, the bad. What we have here is the same thing that sucks about the Witch & the Pumpkin classes.  We are talking a status attack in an RPG, and so it misses often.  Really often!  And what good is an attack that only hits about 30% of the time? No matter how good all of that up there sounds, it’s not as great as it seems when it misses.  It is possible that as a Cockatris gains levels, and a nice average Agility with them, it will hit more often.  I haven’t seen much of a change myself. So, because of this, it is doubtful whether this class is more useful than the original Gryphon or not. It has the same weaknesses to White & Fire attacks too, and they are even lower than before!  The other defenses are relatively high to try and compensate. Still, such a cool ability maybe shouldn’t be overlooked, because those times it does work, you’ll be singing a happy tune!

Now your fighting units will have a great addition to their line up. Not only the ability to give them the High Sky movement type, but the ability to kill Undead!  They tend to have more Hit Points than the other smaller characters that are in the unit, so I generally have him in the Front Row. And then, when I see a unit with some Undead headed my way, I reorganize the unit, so he’s in back! Equipping him with a heavy hitting weapon, or a piece of armor to boost his low defenses, can be a good strategy.  Some of you may like to use a Wyvern in your fighting units, but these are more flexible, even if they are slightly inferior stats wise.  They can get beat up a little bit, so if you like your chances with the Petrify attack hitting, it will help to mitigate the damage the unit, thereby him, takes as a whole.  If you like these, break out any Beast Masters that you still have left and recruit some.  Overall, a pretty solid class with some nice flexibility!
It has also come to my attention that there is a rather huge bug with the Playstation version of the game, the Petrify attack has a flat hit rate of only 5%!! What that means is that for both you and the enemy, it will pretty much never hit!  So, keep this in mind when you make your units up on a Playstation copy of this game!
