Ogre Battle NPC’s |
Here’s a page to let you know about the people in the region that will help you out during your quest.
They can provide you with just helpful information, or they may even give you an item or two! Depending if you help them first, of course... Most of them are good guys sympathetic to your rebel cause, just not good with a sword & shield is all. Some of these characters are just out looking for themselves, and only happen to have common interests with you, and interact with you only at their connivence. Your Reputation will determine whether they decide to show themselves to you in this case. Here’s they are:
You will encounter this fellow after you’ve beaten this stage at the town of Valna. He’s studying the ways of eternal life, but he doesn’t seem to be the
power hungry madman Rashidi has become. He’s looking for the “LEXICON” (Book of the Dead), and if you can bring it to him, there’s a “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring) in it for you! Also, as it turns out, you can do this multiple times, so this is a great source for this item! There are two “LEXICONS” (Book of the Deads) that you can find as far as I know. One of them is on Muspelm, and the other can be found on City of Malano.

This winged lady is the sister of Canopus, and knows all the dirt on him and Gilbert back when they were best buddies. She is integral in getting him to join your party, as she is the one who will provide you with the “WING” (Wing of Victory).
If you do manage to get Canopus to join your army, she will make an encore appearance at the town of Montrosa on Shangrila. She’s tracked you down because she’s worried about how Canopus is doing, and to show her support, Yulia will give you an “HP+” (Vitality Potion)!

This old crone you will discover at the town of Anatoll after you’ve beaten this stage. She will tell you many interesting things about the history of the land of Zeteginea. The most prominent of them detailing the five heroes that united the kingdom 80 years ago. They were Roshian; prince of Sharom, Gran; the Prince’s aide, Dalkas; beast master, Lavian; monk of Avalon, &, interestingly enough, Rashidi, who was the greatest wizard on the whole continent...
And, if you’re feelin’ frisky, you can ask her out on a date! If wrinkled old ladies are your thing...
This particular miscreant will follow you constantly during your quest. You will see a lot of him if you take the low road through this game.
You’ll be best buddies by the end, and, conversely, if you go for the “World” ending, he’ll barely know you! There are some instances where he’ll show up regardless of your Reputation,
however. He does appear with a helpful item every now and then, so keep your eye out for him on the stage by stage walkthrough for specifics.

Boltorano is one of the 3 wise sages that have been sent down to earth by the goddess Fellana. He has now taken residence in the hidden town
of Para on this stage, and you can meet him after you’ve beaten the stage. This guy is very integral in getting the “TABLET” (Tablet of Yaru). If you have a fairly high Reputation, he will give you the “SILVER” (Mercury) as a token of the people’s faith in you. Use this item is to show this trust to another wise sage, Gizolfi, who lives in the Dalmuhd Desert (bleak huh?). Much much later on, once you have gotten the “DOUN GEM” (Gem of Doun) from Gizolfi, you can
come back here to see Boltorano, and he’ll present you with the “ORB” (Olden Orb).

Banya is the childhood nanny of Prince Tristran, and has gone into hiding since the Empire has been in hiding.
You will find her in the hidden town of Kal Robst on this stage. She will tell you that Tristran is not dead as everyone thinks, and is alive and well! If you tell her you don’t wish to seek the throne for yourself, she will give you the “KEY” (Key of Destiny), which
is the symbol of the royal family’s lineage. In order to get Tristran to join your army, you must have this item. Otherwise, he won’t appear on the City of Malano stage when you are looking for him. Banya will give you another item if you visit her with Tristran in your army. She will give you the “BOOK” (Book of Good) as a reward, which sells for a ton of Goth.

Here’s crone #2! This one also has information about various tales & and rumors about the land of Zeteginea. She has information about the three Sky Knights, the Sky Islands, and the Legendary Ogre Battle; among other tasty tidbits.
And yes, you can ask this old hag out on a date as well! Not that there’s anything wrong with that...

Don’t underestimate the importance of this precious little girl. The first time you stumble upon her will be at the town of Somyul while you are on the stage. Posha is in a great amount of trouble. Her mother has fallen ill, and needs a “BEEHIVE” (Golden Beehive) to be cured. And, her father, who has gone in search of one, has not to returned! So, be a good & sympathetic rebellious rabble-rouser and buy one for her at the nearby town of Raloshel. Posha will give you a “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon) as thanks and admiration for the attention you’ve shown her. One of these special items is real nice to get for free, but a Zodiac Stone is extra nice! You have to do this side quest if you want to get all 12 of them. If you don’t, she won’t appear at all for this second part.
Once you have the “TABLET” (Tablet of Yaru), and have started collecting the stones, go to Ograna, and get the “CAKE” (Ginger Cake) from the cooky chef cleric at the Roshian Temple. Then, come back to Diaspola and visit your biggest little fan Posha. When you give Posha the “CAKE” (Ginger Cake), as she is chowing down, she’ll discover the “PEAL” (Pearl) Zodiac Stone inside! Creeped out by it, she gives it to you!

The so-called "Stupendous Wizard" Borgnine may should like a self-proclaimed moron, but he’s quite possibly one of the most important NPC’s that you will run into. Don’t let the name fool you however, as he’s nothing more than a collector and trader of things called Sentoul Demon statues. He is such a fan of these trinkets, however, that he’ll trade you excellent items for any “DEMONS” (Sentoul Demons) that you can bring him! You can get either a “STAFF” (Undead Staff), “DRAGOS” (Stone of Dragos), or
simply 10,000 Goth for each one that you have. Hint: Never take the Goth! So, take a trip to the town of Anglem, and see what Borgnine has got in store for you! It could mean an extra Sorcerer!

Fellana is the goddess of justice, and she will show herself to you only if you are walking the path of the true warrior. She is the one responsible for the Zodiac Stones, and will allow you to find them again.
Provided that you prove to her that you’re the one destined to return honor to the region and prevent the Ogre Battle from happening again. How, you ask? If you come back and visit her with the three magic gems that she sent down to the mainland with the three wise sages, she’ll give you the “TABLET” (Tablet of Yaru), which will prove to the holders of the Zodiac Stones that you are indeed worthy. The three gems are the “DOUN GEM” (Gem of Doun), “ORB” (Olden Orb), “TRUE GEM” (Gem of Truth).

These NPC’s represent the random and faceless NPC’s that you’ll come across on multiple different stages. The Roshian Monk and the Band of Thieves show up more often than the other two. The more evil you
are, the more the thieves will show up! On Fort Allamoot, though, they all make an appearance at various towns during the wild romp you must go through in order to get “THE SAGA” (The Saga).
Gizolfi the White is the second of the three wise sages that you will need to search for if you want the “TABLET” (Tablet of Yaru). He is located in the hidden town of Allabard, which is in the upper NE corner of the map. He’s in hiding from the boss Porchon, so you have to make the boss go bye-bye in order for him to show himself. However, you must have gotten the “SILVER” (Mercury) item from Boltorano in order for him to give you the “DOUN GEM” (Gem of Doun). After he gives you this item, he gives you random information snippets, along with some pretty useless hints as to where you might find the Zodiac Stones.

Another old lady! But this one just happens to be the third wise sage that was sent down to the continent by Fellana. You can find her at the town of Ramoto after the stage has been beaten. Provided that you have at least the “SILVER” (Mercury), she will give you the “TRUE GEM” (Gem of Truth). Tarut will also provide you with more info about random background secrets after she gives you the item.

Various stages
There are 12 of these watchers scattered throughout the Zenobian land. Each one of them has a Zodiac Stone, but will only present it to a person who bestows the “TABLET” (Tablet of Yaru). These guys mostly hang out at Roshian Temples, but they sometimes do reside in towns. Check out the stage by stage walkthrough for the exact locations of all 12 Zodiac Stones!

Once you defeat General Luvalon in battle, return to the boss castle of Kulyn. Here, you will be greeted by the spirit of Parcival, the former keeper of the “GRAIL” (Grail). If you have a very high Reputation, he will give it to you!
Otherwise, you’ll get the “BIZEN” (Bizen Sword) as a consolation prize. You don’t even get a lousy copy of our home game! You’re a complete loser!
This paladin is one of the last that survived the purge of Empress Endora when the paladins tried to tell her to stop her psychotic strangle hold over the populace. You can find him at the town of Azuza. on Zeteginea, & at a hidden Roshian Temple on Temple Shalina. Gawain won’t give you any items, but has valuable information about what Rashidi is really after, and other important things to know before you face him.
